Who We Are
Being the largest and oldest local credit union in Pensacola, Florida, with more than $3 billion in assets, is the least interesting thing about us.
How It All Started
Since our founding in 1936, PenAir Credit Union has always maintained our commitment to our members’ needs. Through these years we have grown alongside our members and welcomed more members into our cooperative. Because of this strength we have been able to continually improve our service through enhanced access and convenience, competitive rates, and more locations. This strength will always be a part of who we are, yesterday, today, and in the future.

BauerFinancial, Inc., the nation’s credit union and bank rating firm, has been analyzing and reporting on the nation’s financial institutions since 1983. A 5-Star rating by Bauer indicates that PenAir is one of the strongest credit unions in the nation, excelling in such areas as capital, loan quality, profitability, and much more.
Newsweek America's Best Credit Unions
Newsweek and market data research firm Plant-A Insights Group recently released their ranking of America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions 2024, recognizing the top 250 Regional Banks and top 250 Credit Unions in the United States.
Forbes.com Names PenAir Among Top CU
In order to evaluate the more than 5,000 credit unions in the United States, Forbes enlisted the help of Statista, a marketing research firm, to survey nearly 26,000 U.S. citizens from all 50 states on their banking relationships. Financial institutions were scored on overall recommendations and satisfaction, as well as five subdimensions (trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services, and financial advice). Only 3.4% of credit unions nationwide make this prestigious list.

You can open an account with us if you live, work, go to school or worship in one of the 19 counties we serve, from Mobile County, Alabama to Leon County, Florida.
To become a PenAir member, you only need three things:
- Your driver’s license or other acceptable forms of identification, such as government-issued photo IDs, state IDs, or military IDs.
- Your complete physical and mailing address. If your current address doesn’t match your ID, we’ll need proof of your current address (e.g., a paystub, utility bill, tax bill, or vehicle registration).
- $5 for your Savings Account, which serves as your share account and establishes your membership with PenAir.
As long as you live, work, go to school, or worship in one of the 19 counties we serve between Mobile, AL and Tallahassee, FL, you’re eligible to join PenAir and enjoy our range of financial services.
