PenAir Credit Union Expands Into Virginia, Bringing 90 Years of Member-First Banking to the Commonwealth
PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 23, 2026) — PenAir Credit Union (PenAir) has expanded its field of membership into the Commonwealth of Virginia, opening membership access to those who live, work, worship, or attend school in Montgomery County, Roanoke County, and the Cities of Radford, Roanoke, and Salem.
This expansion marks a significant milestone for PenAir, bringing its 90-year legacy of community-focused financial service beyond the Gulf Coast and into Southwest Virginia. The move establishes a strong presence in a region with longstanding personal and professional ties to Lee Morgan, President and CEO of PenAir Credit Union, and reflects the credit union’s continued focus on purposeful, values driven growth.
“For nearly a century, PenAir has focused on enhancing lives through meaningful financial relationships,” said Morgan. “Expanding into Virginia allows us to carry that purpose to a region that values connection, opportunity, and long-term financial wellbeing.”
PenAir has already established a presence in Virginia following the merger of Star City Federal Credit Union in the summer of 2025 and continues to strengthen its footprint across Southwest Virginia. As part of that effort, the credit union is building a robust commercial lending presence in the region, led by Elliott Kuelz, Commercial Lending Officer, to support local businesses, entrepreneurs, and economic growth.
PenAir has expanded its indirect lending activity in the Commonwealth, with Rob Angus, Indirect Business Development Officer, focused on developing dealer partnerships and supporting lending relationships across the region. These efforts reflect early momentum and growing engagement with both businesses and consumers in the market.
In addition, PenAir is actively reaching communities through digital channels, connecting eligible residents to the credit union’s full suite of products and services. While these digital capabilities allow PenAir to serve members wherever they are, the credit union is also planning for a future physical branch presence as part of its long‑term commitment to serving communities across Southwest Virginia.
Eligible Virginia members will have access to PenAir’s full suite of digital banking tools, offering flexible and secure account access paired with personalized support from experienced financial professionals. Membership includes modern digital banking features such as mobile deposits, online payments, and real time account access, along with competitive loan, checking, and savings options and a member first approach focused on trust, relationships, and long term financial wellbeing.‑time account access, along with competitive loan, checking, and savings options and a member‑first approach focused on trust, relationships, and long‑term financial wellbeing.
PenAir’s entry into the Commonwealth expands consumer choice while reinforcing its belief that financial institutions should be active partners in the communities they serve, not just service providers.
