PenAir Employees Donate $5,000 to The Secret Place Home Through #JeansForCommunerosity ® Program

Pensacola, Fla. (August 24, 2021) – The employees of PenAir Federal Credit Union presented $5,000 to The Secret Place on Tuesday, August 18, 2021. The Secret Place Home provides a safe space for female child & young adult survivors of commercial sexual exploitation in Northwest Florida.  The Christian-based center offers independent living life skills, health & wellness, therapeutic services and mentorship.

“The Credit Union movement is about “People Helping People”’, says Stacie Dice, Digital Marketing Strategist and Co-Chair for the PenAir Federal Credit Union Communerosity ® Committee. “This donation will help a vulnerable population of young women (ages 13-24). The Secret Place Home offers more than a home for healing. Their program restores dignity while providing necessary services like trauma informed therapy, survivor mentorship as well as awareness and advocacy. We are people, helping people.”

PenAir’s Jeans for Communerosity ® (J4C) program is an employee-driven fundraising effort to give back to those in need in the community.  Each year, employees nominate and vote for local nonprofit organizations to be recipients of this philanthropic program. Funds are raised through payroll deductions, J4C days, and J4C t-shirt sales. PenAir matches employee contributions and divides them equally among the ten selected charities for the year. Through J4C, PenAir employees have given more than $340,000 since the program began in 2013. By the end of 2021, more than $390,000 will be given back to help make an impact in the communities we serve. “Human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children is happening right in our own backyard,” says Kristin Lipscomb, President of The Secret Place Home. “Yet so many, including those being victimized, don’t identify that it is and yet it has robbed them for too long of a new future. That’s why it is so vital that we continue to link arms together to end it. The Secret Place Home is so grateful to partner with likeminded organizations, like PenAir Federal Credit Union, to create a new narrative and a new future for survivors. One that disrupts their trauma and creates a new path toward wholeness and healing,” says Lipscomb.
