PenAir Empowers C.A. Weis Elementary School Families Through Financial Literacy Program

Pensacola, Fla. (April 19, 2022) – PenAir Federal Credit Union (PenAir) wraps up annual financial literacy classes with community partner, C.A. Weis Elementary School, A Community Partnership School.

“Through the Community Partnership Schools™ model at C.A. Weis Elementary and our partnership with PenAir Federal Credit Union, we provide resources to help parents manage their finances wisely and pass those skills onto their children, helping them achieve success inside the classroom and beyond,” said Lindsey Cannon, Regional Executive Director of Children’s Home Society of Florida. “With the wonderful support of PenAir, we are empowering our C.A. Weis families to pursue future educational and professional goals through financial literacy.”

PenAir employees donate their time and knowledge each year to provide a sound financial foundation for those in community. Past topics have ranged from how to create a budget, establishing credit and how it affects your everyday life, to breaking the cycle of living paycheck-to-paycheck.

“We conduct 4 classes a school year. Each session lasts around 1.5 hours, which includes time for a meal, financial education for the parents, and craft time for the kids,” says Casey Brueske, Community Education Development Specialist for PenAir Federal Credit Union. “Escambia County has a poverty rate of about fourteen percent. Our hope is that these classes can provide essential money management skills, enabling the parents to change the way they view their future. And with the state of Florida now requiring a half credit of instruction in personal financial literacy and money management for high school graduates, we’re excited to see these life skills taught earlier within our community.”
