Sacrifices Equal Savings For Team Wooton

Going into this contest, I never dreamed our family would have been able to pay off as much debt while also increasing our savings like we have.

Going into this contest, I never dreamed our family would have been able to pay off as much debt while also increasing our savings like we have.

A family of four walk through bleachers at a baseball game.

It is amazing to watch our debt balances on our credit cards & lines of credit all falling while simultaneously watching our savings, retirement, and our boy’s savings grow.

We have all made some sacrifices to obtain our monthly goals. The boys have finally gotten use to not getting a happy meal every time we pass the golden arches. They have also learned that a trip to Walmart does not mean they are getting a new toy (unless they bring their own money, they earned from doing chores). And the entire family has committed to taking our lunches to work & school, as well as packing sandwiches & snacks to take with us to the ballgames.

Wes made the biggest sacrifice this month in the name of #TeamWooton. He LOVES Halloween. But this year, we set a modest budget for his Halloween spending. Against the odds, he has successfully found creative ways to stay within that budget while still adding decorations to his collection.

As for me, instead of buying the newest lotion, cosmetics or hair products, I pulled out “that basket” of forgotten products from the bottom of cabinet to utilize. Hair appointments, a ritual for most women, have been stretched to every twelve weeks instead of every six weeks. Even the dog grooming appointments have been pushed to every twelve weeks instead of every six weeks.

These all might seem like very small sacrifices, but they are equaling huge savings for the Wooton household. With the money we are saving on these minor adjustments, we’ve been able to pay a little more on our debts & add a little more to our savings accounts.

While we have not made any large payoffs at this stage in the game, we are on track to achieve every goal we set out to accomplish by the end of 2021. The snowball effect on our debt payoff will greatly benefit us in the upcoming New Year. All our credit cards & smaller monthly payments will be paid in full & hopefully one vehicle by the time this contest ends. And how cool is it going to be to roll all of that “extra money” into our retirement & mortgage?

We cannot thank our financial advisor, Katelyn enough. She is always there to answer any of our countless questions & steer #TEAMWOOTON in the right direction. #SlowAndSteadyWinsTheRace
